Hello Lovlies! I’m very excited to be linking up today for Healthy Habits link party on Teachers of Good Things Blog.
Today I’m talking about a topic I love – Running!
Before moving to Florida, I ran off and on for 9 months. I got to the point where I was really truly loving it! But last summer was crazy with the Mexico Missions Trip and Moving to Florida, so I had basically quit running by the end of August.
Now that we are settled in our new home, I struggled to get motivated and find the love of running again. So I set myself a goal for 2013.
Run 500 miles between January 1st and December 31st.
I did the math, and I have to run approximately 1.9 miles 5 days a week for 52 weeks. I can totally do that, but it still is just scary enough to keep me working hard at it.
To keep track of my runs I am using the Nike Running App on my iPhone 4s. The app tracks each of my runs and my per mile pace throughout the entire thing.
I can also track where I ran and how it felt. For you more serious runners, it also keeps track of the miles on your shoes so that you know when to replace them.
I deleted all my previous runs, so that my total mile tracker will keep going up and up and up till I hit the goal of 500 miles!
And although I don’t have anyone to run with each day, I have a few friends joining me on this challenge. And it’s not too late for you to start! I am challenging you to either run, walk, or bike 500 miles in 2013. Pick one or do a combination of all 3! I am trying to run all 500 miles, but if I encounter an injury (praying not), then that may change. If you want to join me, connect via Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #go500
If you’re nervous about joining in late and loosing that 2 week advantage, then start your 365 day challenge today. So your goal is to #go500 between January 15, 2013 and January 14, 2014. Deal?
Will you join me?
Be blessed

P.S. Working out is easier when you’re eating healthy too. Want a yummy salad recipe? Well, you’re in luck. I posted one today – Chef’s Salad
So glad you linked up for healthy habits again! I love this challenge. I’m doing walking and running. Maybe next year I’ll run all 500!
(the nike app won’t work on my tablet – boo!)
What a great goal! Sounds like you’ve set yourself up for success, too. I’m not there just yet. My goal for this year is simply to work up to exercising 2x’s per week. With 4 kids (1-10) that I homeschool, I’m thinking I should start small.
[…] My healthy habits goal update: We only made it to the gym twice last week due to everyone getting a cold. I completed 4 miles last week for a total of 9.5 miles this year. I’m joining Alesha in trying to run 500 miles. Stop by her blog for more challenge details and tips to stay accountable. […]
That’s a great goal. I don’t run, but I did not do my usual neighborhood walking nor any bike riding last year. You’ve encouraged me to set a goal for that this year, though I have to think for a bit what would be reasonable yet challenging. Thanks for sharing!
Wow! That is an ambitious goal, girl. You make me wonder, should I set a goal for miles WALKED (I do some boost walking – jogging with my Walk at Home DVD). I think I WILL! I will add it to my next post… once I figure out what it will be!
Awesome! I’m glad I inspire you a bit..I’m passing it on I guess! =)
Oh I wish I could love running – but I just don’t. Can’t. (My knees can’t take it, bad knees.) I don’t mind power walking, though, as long as I have good supportive shoes. And I admire people who run! Just for that, you’re pretty amazing! =)
Thanks! I just admire people who exercise consistently, however they do. That’s what I struggle with, hence my goal this year…not too structured so maybe I can actually do it. =)Alesha <3
