“But what about me?”
”What about what’s best for me?”
“Who will watch out for me if I’m not watching out for myself?”
”If my eyes are off of myself, then how will I take care of myself?”

And I wrestle with my pride in so many ways. Because deep down, I want everything to be about me.
I see the world based on myself…my life and emotions and knowledge and beliefs.
And since my entire perspective of the world is based on myself, it’s easy to become self-obsessed, self-consumed. We can rapidly become obsessed with self-preservation, self-image, or self-worth…
We can quickly become single-focused on our own comfort, our own success, or even our own growth. We can so easily become consumed with our relationships, our influence, or our voice.
It’s so easy to be self-consumed.

And this American culture tells us that is good to be completely self-focused. We’re told that we’re supposed to look out for ourselves first…that we’re supposed to think of our own happiness above all else.
But that’s not what humility looks like, and that’s definitely not what God desires us to look like.
“Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”
Philippians 2:13
This command from God’s Word is so counter-cultural, so counter-intuative, that my fears start to mount. And I wonder…
“Who will watch out for me if I’m not watching out for myself?”
But we are safe in the palm of our Maker’s hand.
We are held by the God Who never sleeps.
We are watched by the One Who has numbered every hair on our heads.
We are guided and cared for by the Good Shepherd.
He will never let us go.
He will never let us down.
He will never turn His back.
“O LORD, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O LORD, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.”
Psalm 139:1-5
“Who will watch out for us if we’re not watching out for ourselves?”
Our God, Who asks us to walk in humility before Him, He will watch out for us.
Be blessed
