Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.Psalm 116:7
Return to rest.
Return to peace.
Return.
Because so often I run frantic from one desperate situation to the next without pausing to celebrate the good that God has worked.
And His good is always bountifully more than we deserve.
And David is preaching it loud to his own heart and to mine…return to your rest.
Return.
Where have our scattered and frantic hearts run to today?
Where have our anxious and forgetful minds fled this hour?
Rest.
Our rest is in Him.
He is the safe place in the midst of the crazy and the chaos.
And we begin to wonder why we ever left.
And just the moment we begin to relax in the safety of His rest we begin to fall away again. Because the staying is the hard part.
Return.
Because the hymn writer said it best…
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love
Robert Robinson
Because when I’m not seeking Him, I’m falling away.
When I’m not chasing after Him, I’m running the other way.
So the returning…it happens daily, hourly…as often as I find my wandering heart anywhere other than in the rest of the Lord.
And the secret?
The place we return to is the Lord, but the words seem to say it backwards.
Rest. Bountiful blessings. Rejoice.
And Ann says it best…
You pull in your life and you see that though you felt ripped open —- the net actually didn’t tear.
That there’s grace in your net.
And you actually count them.
You count every single grace that He gave through the long dark night, and…it’s a feast!
And He is always bountiful with His gifts and the graces are always there if we look. And the rest comes when you recognize the bountiful He has already given…not when the bountiful arrives.
Because the bountiful goodness of God is always there, is always being poured out upon us.
The bountiful always precedes the rest, because the bountiful is always there. But the rest never comes until you recognize the bountiful He has given…till you rejoice it.
Be blessed
