I had heard this song many times, but the words never really hit me as anything special until it was played during worship at the SE Calvary Chapel Pastor’s Conference that I attended a few weeks ago.
In that moment, the words became so alive, so real, and so powerful. This song has become a heart cry of mine. I hope the lyrics bless you as much as they did/do me.
The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass, and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes
Chorus:
Bless the Lord, Oh my soul
Oh my soul, Worship His holy name
Sing like never before, Oh my soul
I’ll worship His holy name
You’re rich in love, and You’re slow to anger
Your name is great, and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find
And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore
Chorus:
Bless the Lord, Oh my soul
Oh my soul, Worship His holy name
Sing like never before, Oh my soul
I’ll worship His holy name
– 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman
One of the most impacting pieces of advice my husband ever gave me, was a quote from John Piper.
“Whenever your heart starts to be anxious about the future, preach to your heart and say, ‘Heart, who do you think you are to be afraid of the future and nullify the promise of God? No, heart, I will not exalt myself with anxiety. I will humble myself in peace and joy as I trust this precious and great promise of God—He cares for me.’ – John Piper
Sisters, my heart so easily strays. I so quickly listen to the lies of Satan. Lies that bring fear and condemnation. But when I read the Psalms, David combats those feelings with testamonies of God’s faithfulness. No matter how dark the place he is in, David always ends his Psalms praising the Lord.
I want to live my life that way. I don’t want to live in the shadow of Satan’s lies. I want to preach to my heart.
“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?” – Jeremiah 17:9
Ladies, this is my heart and emotions. I need to combat that with the truth of God’s word. This song is a beautiful reminder to me of that.
Be blessed
